Artists

We’re Caitlind r.c. Brown & Wayne Garrett, and we join this project from Edmonton’s sister city in Calgary/Mohkinstsis. We’re no strangers to Edmonton – Wayne went to the University of Alberta for a few years, played in an Edmonton-based band, and worked at a local bike shop. Caitlind’s little sister lives in Edmonton with her Fiance, and we often stay at their house when we’re in town (Thanks Rachie & K2!) This is our second public artwork in Edmonton. We previously made an upturned car sculpture for the Edmonton Brewery District called CARBON COPY. We’re delighted to be working on a new project for Butler Memorial Park. Can’t wait to ‘Play it By Ear’ with you!

~ Caitlind & Wayne, Artists & Collaborators

Caitlind r.c. Brown is an artist, collaborator, and cultural organizer based in Calgary/Mohkinstsis. She graduated from Alberta University of the Arts in 2010, working in the arts and culture sector, facilitating festivals, slinging hotdogs, and supporting community radio while pursuing a fulltime arts practice. She is a co-founder of WRECK CITY, organizer of The Hibernation Project, co-host of EARS HAVE EYES sound art radio program on CJSW 90.9 FM, and long-time collaborator with Wayne Garrett.

Wayne Garrett is an artist and musician living in Calgary/Mohkinstsis. He trained as a Machinist at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, working as a Journeyman and musician in Whitehorse, Yukon, before returning to Calgary to pursue Jazz Music at Mount Royal University. His visual arts practice began in 2007 in an unassuming suburban house with mischievous and award-winning art collective The Arbour Lake Sghool. Playing in bands trained him to be a good collaborator, a practice he continues with groups like Matt Masters and The Ladies & Gentlemen of the Rodeo, Wine Soaked Preachers, Ghostkeeper, Ryan Bourne & The Plant City Band, Surf Kitties! and a TBA solo project, coming soon to a radio near you…

Together, Caitlind & Wayne make site-responsive artworks, lead bizarre & compelling community projects, and tour sculptures internationally. Whether imagining work for formal galleries, pre-demolition buildings, mountain meadows, or their own backyard, they believe in art’s potential to permeate everyday places, building our human capacity for self-criticality and a clearer vision of the complex, superimposed world(s) that engulf us always.
